5 Signs Your Plant Is Ready for Water!

When I first got into indoor plants I was all over the place with watering my plants - every plant had a different frequency need and they all acted differently.

I've put together a list of five things I recommend you look for to determine if your plants are ready to be watered and made a video version for those who'd rather watch than read:

1. Leaves are lacking the spring in their step: If your leaves are a bit droopy and lack the bounce back they normally have when you touch them it's likely due to dehydration and they'd benefit from a good drink.

2. Foliage has lost the saturation of colour: The vibrancy of colour in your plants is a great indicator as to whether or not they're well hydrated. Dull colours that don't appear as exuberant are a great indicator of needing some water.

3. The Shrink-Back Soil: If you notice the soil pulling away from the edges of the pot or the stem of the plant, it’s your plant’s version of ghosting you and a clear sign it’s thirsty. A good soak will help the soil expand and re-connect with the sides. Soil that also feels cool to the touch generally has some moisture left in it while soil that is crumbly and doesn't adhere to your skin when touched is also very dry.

4. Lighter Pot, Lighter Mood: A quick trick: lift your plant’s pot. Dry soil is lighter than wet soil, so if your pot feels suspiciously feather-light, it’s probably watering day. Remember to give your plants a good, solid watering to ensure they get enough water to last them instead of a tiny sip that will have them needing your attention again in no time.

5. Curly leaves are dry leaves: Most of the time leaves on plants that are hydrated are plump and full while leaves on a plant that is ready to be watered and be curling in as they're not as juicy as they were the day after watering.

Bonus Tip: Make the switch over to a good potting mix that allows healthy airflow as well as moisture retention like Chunky & Funky Indoor Plant Mix as well as making rhe move over to Clear Nursery Pots so you can see exactly when you need to water your plant.
